Gizmo 1991-2007

It was so bizarre but today I came home to find my cat Gizmo laying on the floor and he was not doing well. I took him to the vet and they told me when they are as old as he was there was nothing they could do. So with a heavy heart I had to say goodbye to my cat. He was the one who when I got him was so small when I held him my hand he had plenty of room to go around. In his later years he was much bigger and was truly loveable. The ironic thing is that my sister who has a cat as well was having issues of his own and she took him to the vet basically the same time I did and she had to put her cat down too. It will take a while for me to get over this and I don't know if I will be ready to get another pet anytime soon. I will miss him and as I am writing this I kept wondering how long it would take for him to come over and I realized he won't be.

I'm so sorry Ramble... I totally know how important a pet can be.

Our cat Cali is about 13 so we're waiting for that day with her. I would suggest that you do not get another pet until you've finished the majority of your grieving for Gizmo. It's not fair to another cat to have to live up to everything that Gizmo was to you.

My heart goes out to you.... Maybe Gizmo will get to come back next time as a King!

Aw, Ramble. I'm so sorry to hear this. Whenever we lost one of our pets, it is always a crisis and time for tears.

Grieve for Gizmo, but go ahead and get another pet. Your heart is already big enough for a pet and a new one will fit right into the space.

Rest in peace, Gizmo. You were a wonderful friend and companion. And Tom, you gave him a wonderful home for all those years. It's amazing how we get so attached to our pets, these charming, silly, fun, little creatures. They truly do become a part of the family, and I know you will miss him greatly. He will always be with you.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I haven't had a pet since childhood. Lately I've been thinking of adopting a Chihuahua. I think their so cute. N e way, I can imagine becoming thus attached. Pet's are so loving and only break your heart when their no longer around. I don't know that I agree with the others here who say give yourself time before you adopt another pet. No pet will ever replace the love you felt for Gizmo. I say look for another pet.

Sorry its taken me so long to respond to this one! I'm finally catching up on my blogs. I'm so sorry. I have a dog and a cat at home, they are both very old. We had a scare with my dog when the petfood recalls were going around. I totally understand how hard this can be. They become family members. If you're like me, you've got tons of pictures of your cat, maybe you can make a collage and frame it, to put it up in your house so you are always reminded of your furry friend.
