Couple thoughts.
1. Yes, landscape can be a character in the movie, but I think it's been done better (Werner Herzog is brilliant with this)
2. I don't think the movie was entirely faithful to the story. Namely, it's sanitized. The story was very gritty, and this movie was almost sanctimonious.
3. I think part of the brilliance (most likely unintentional) of not knowing what happens to Jack is that it shows how when gay people die, there is a bunch of covering up that goes on. You don't know because society isn't going to tell you.
Just ruin the movie! lol
I'm joking, I wish I could have saw the movie. It sucks living where I do.
